PRODUCT BENEFITS

Cranial Orthotics or helmets are used to treat infants with congenital head deformities or acquired deformities after birth. The most common head deformity is plagiocephaly where one side of the head is flat and the other is bossing/ protruding on the other side. The other head defomities which are less common are brachycephaly and scaphocephaly and plagiobrachy/combo. The BENEFITS are :

  • Good compliance for the patient.
  • Good outcome (prognosis is 100%)
  • Protection to the skull.
  • Whole treatment takes three to four months.

AL REHAB PROCESS FROM TAKING ORDER TILL DELIVERY

How it works and what are the process?

  • Step I. Screening of the infant head as early as possible after birth.
  • Step II. Assessment and 3D scanning for example,(observing flatness of the other head, early referral to pediatric physiotherapist abd repositioning programme.
  • Step III. No improvement in the head shape at 5 months immediately starting cranial remolding programme which will last only for 3 to 4 months.
  • Step IV. Measurement and 3 D scanning.
  • Step V. Fitting the cranial helmet in two weeks as per American Pediatric Association.
  • Step VI. Frist follow up at one week, followed by another follow up next week.
  • Step VII. Every four weeks follow up.
  • Step VIII. Cranial graduation after four months with discharge scan before and after.

WHAT KIND OF HEAD SHAPE DEFORMITIES DO WE COMMONLY SEE?

The most prevalent head is deformational plagiocephaly. This is when the baby's head appears misshapen or asymmetrial immediately after birth, or develops this deformation in the first few months of life. Deformational brachycephally is when the entire back of the baby's head is flat and the head is very wide. Deformational scahocephaly is when the head is excessively long for its width.

WAHT CAUSES THE DEFORMATION?

The plasticity and open sutures of the newborn's skull makes it susceptible to external pressures in the womb during the birth process and after birth. Restricted space inside the mother's womb can create excessive contact on certain areas of the baby's head. This may cause deformation in babies positioned in a breech position, multiple fetuses, or in babies who spend excessive time with the head confined in the birth canal. The skulls of premature babies are particularly susceptible to deformation.

Other factors could also aggravate this, including:

  • Excessive time in carriers, car seats, strollers
  • Tight clothing and covering that prevents spontaneous movement
  • Insufficient "tummy-time"
  • Torticollis
